Regional Short-term Training on Analysis of Mycotoxins in Feed

Saitama, Japan, 4-8 December 2017

As a part of the activities of OIE Collaborating Centre for Animal Feed Safety and Analysis, Food and Agricultural Materials Inspection Center in Japan (FMAIC), organized the 2nd cycle of Regional Short-term Training on Analysis of Mycotoxin in feed, with the support of OIE Regional Representation for Asia and the Pacific from 4-8 December 2017.

This training was an continued effort to respond to the outcome of the OIE/FAO-APHCA Regional Workshop on Feed Safety "Feed borne Disease Prevention" ,held in 2010. The objectives of this training were: 1to further understand the international standards on feed in relation to classification, contaminants, residue limits and detection, 2to master the detect method of Mycotoxins in feed.

Participants from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Chinese Taipei, Laos, Malaysia and Thailand learned the laboratory operation procedure for determination of aflatoxins in maize using liquid chromatograph-fluorescence detector (LC-FL), simultaneous determination of mycotoxins in feed using liquid chromatograph – tandem mass spectrometer (LC-MS/MS) and ELISA assay for determination of aflatoxin B1 in maize. The participants were also provided with the information about OIE and OIE Code related to feed safety, Mycotoxin in Foods and animals, Mycotoxin Analysis – current and global harmonization, Japanese regulation and surveillance on mycotoxins in feed.

The OIE RRAP will continue to support and find more opportunities to encourage OIE Reference Laboratories and Collaborating Centres in the region to implement regional training programmes on the topics related to their expertise.
