Meetings OIE/JTF Project for FMD Control in Asia

2nd FMD Scientific Meeting for East Asia under the OIE/JTF Project for FMD Control in Asia 

OIE Regional Representation for Asia Asia and the Pacific organised 2nd FMD Scientific Meeting for East under the OIE/JTF Project on FMD Control in Asia, in Tokyo, Japan on 11 June 2015, back-to-back with the 4th Coordination Committee Meeting.

Objectives of the scientific meeting were to create opportunity for Member Countries to exchange scientific information on FMD relevant studies conducted in FMD diagnostic laboratory in each Member Country, and also to encourage joint research or joint studies among them.

Participants of meeting included CVOs, NCPs, head of the national FMD laboratory and 2-3 FMD researchers from Member Countries of the Project, namely China PR, Hong Kong SAR, Japan, Korea RO, Mongolia and Chinese Taipei as well as representatives from Laos and Myanmar, experts on FMD and other transboundary animal diseases, representatives from the OIE Headquarters, Regional and Sub-Regional Representation, observers, and internship students.

Dr Ronello Abila, OIE Sub-Regional Representative, gave a keynote presentation on ‘Research needed to support FMD control in Pool 1’. 2-3 researchers of laboratory of each Member Country presented results from FMD relevant studies and exchanged scientific information on FMD with active discussion. Participants agreed to continue FMD scientific meetings every 2 years under the new OIE/JTF project.
